An experiment in power and receptivity fueled by experience, expression, thinking, doing, making and keeping a record of one person’s labor in order to come into her own time of weaving her own story (a slow dance with a scorpion). This is it. This is who I am. Take me as I am.

twentyfourteen: Reflection

Here it is folks - the mix you probably didn't know you were waiting for!

It's been quite a year.  I started grad school, the Pope started talking sense, and our Dear Ol Earth started a new era called the Anthropocene (OK, maybe that started hundreds of years ago - but I heard about it THIS year.).  I've been making music mixes as gifts and annuals for a long, long time.  Recently an old friend showed me a mixtape I had given him on his 16th birthday.  An actual tape, handwritten liner notes (in my ridiculous teenage penmanship), lots of Jimi Hendrix and a creepy androgynous picture for the cover that was definitely cut out of an AdBusters magazine.  Some old habits die hard.  This year's compilation is sadly lacking any Jimi - nor does it do any justice in reflecting the countless hours I spent singing along to Bonnie Raitt while driving around the Santa Cruz mountains in my Corolla.  This year's mix is instead a reflection of where I've been and where I'd like to go.  It's a list of my favorites - each one chosen for lots of reasons and arranged in a (hopefully) good-time down-home wave-flow style.

Two nights ago I said goodbye to a dear, dear loved one.  Another mother.  My oldest and best friend's loving, vibrant, hilarious, silly-in-all-the-right-ways, and absolutely brilliant mom flew off on that other wind after a three year fight with colon cancer.  So that's in here too.  We're having a Fuck Cancer dance party in everybody's honor and we're all invited on both sides of the veil.

You can stream the mix at the link below or download it as one long track to your computer.

With a heavy heart and lots of love I wish you all a bright new year.  Bring on 2015.

All my love,
pussymuscle
